Fusun Doria Saglam

Doria Fusun Saglam has captured an arresting scene where the majesty of nature is celebrated in its most elemental forms. While the image is photographic in appearance, the composition is acutely realised to create a sense of awe and grandeur, similar to ‘romanticist’ paintings of the 19th century.
The surface of the image is finely worked with areas of delicate tones that reveal and exploit the weave of the canvas underneath. Other areas of the painting contain dense layers of colour which give weight and substance to the subject. The ultimate result is a painting that invites close inspection and contemplation, which is rewarded with a lift of the spirit.
