Artist's Statement
My paintings are ephemeral scenes of nature from a past of which I know not and to a future I will not see. My mind hovers above the colourful clouds, distilling light and space. I search for the magical but elusive moment when the daunting and humbling forces of nature intersect and resonate with my imagery, my longing for fulfilment and peace, my sadness, my joys and hopes evoking a calm, contemplative space.
In this stillness and silence I become aware of our smallness while celebrating our divinity through the sublimation of nature. I get goose bumps... then I start painting. My dreams become accessible, tangible, no more tangled in the clouds.
This metamorphosis happens to me in the solitude of the studio. Then it is ready to be shared. Real art is its effect on people.
Biography
1973-77 Bachelor of Graphic Arts, The Faculty of Fine Arts, The University of Marmara, Istanbul
1977-85 Advertising agency experience as graphic artist, freelance illustrator
